The picture above says it all for people who love their food. However food addictions also comes in the form of eating only small amounts and being obsessive about the quantity one eats.
See whether you relate to any of the symptoms below.
Do you know that feeling when you have eaten chicken with rice, and you would like to eat a desert, such as pudding?
Actually the hunger and cravings is not the same thing. After a meal, as the example with the chicken and rice, you can’t feel hungry anymore, that’s because the brain sends you a signal to eat more, even the meal was theoretically sufficient. This happens to many people. Most of us have cravings. If that happens often, the problem is with your self control. As I have mentioned above, the meal (the rice and the chicken), theoretically should be sufficient for you, but the brain is looking for something to activate secretion of dopamine which considers it as a reward.
EAT UNTIL YOU FEEL COMPLETELY FULL
Probably you know that feeling when you eat and after awhile you feel hard. You ate more than you should without noticing. You feel that because the signals for saturation are a little bit late to the brain. If you are doing this often, you are overloading your organism only with digestion that can lead to a feeling of fatigue.
INVENTING EXCUSES SO YOU CAN CONTINUE EATING
For example, you choose one day a week when you eat junk food and let’s say that it was Sunday, but to assume that after the training in Thursday you have saw someone that was eating ice cream, and after that you had wish also to get one. The reasons for this may be different, from that you can comfort that your training on Thursday was more intensive than the other days that the previous week you were entering less calories and etc… So I suggest to challenge yourself, so you can see how much time you can survive without certain junk food, and then when you won’t be able to survive without it, repeat the challenge again.
HIDING FROM THE OTHERS WHEN YOU ARE EATING
How many times have you escaped from the others so they don’t see your junk food addiction? I don’t know why, but usually I was having cravings for junk food in the late hours, so I was going to some gas station to buy some chips, chocolate or something other. So I was eating it on the way back home, so if someone is awake at my house, not to see me that I was eating junk food. Although after that I was feeling bad about it, but it was late. Because of this I got used to go to bed earlier, that automatically I have reduced the chances for consuming a junk food in the late hours.
YOU ARE ALWAYS MAKING A PLAN, BUT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO REALIZE IT
The most common example that I can notice in the people when they are making plans for meals is not to eat anything after 18:00 o’clock, but they never realize it. Let’s say that you have challenged yourself not to eat junk food just once a week, but when you will look behind, you will see that you never managed to realize that plan.
ALTHOUGH YOU FEEL GUILTY AFTERWARDS YOU REPEATED AGAIN
You know that when you eat more food than you were planning, especially if that is junk food, and after that you feel bad about that decision. This is very common and many people have experienced it. It’s a good and a bad thing. For those who have problems with excessive weight and are trying to control the eating of junk food, usually have a guilty conscience when you have a feeling of cravings. And when that feel obsess us, we aren’t able to control it, and we feel depressive, weak and undisciplined, but we are still repeating it several times.
EATING MORE THAN YOU ARE PLANNING
You know that when mom or grandma made your favorite cake, so you are saying that you are going to eat one piece of the cake, because you haven’t tried for a long time. What can harm me if I eat just two pieces? Simply, some people are just lying to themselves, because they are not able to eat just two pieces of cake, and when they start to eat, they are not able to stop until they eat half of the cake. I was pretty much the same, but I know many of you that are today. This is pretty much the same as you to tell an alcoholic to drink beer in moderate amounts, what is mission impossible.
YOU CAN'T QUIT FOOD THAT IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH
This stadium for sure is the worst. It’s known that the long time consumption of food full of sugar and processed food (junk food) leads to many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and many others, and in some occasions can also cause cancer. Despite this though you know that junk food impairs your health, you can’t quit consuming it, what is a real problem. Unfortunately nowadays and the whole food industry has a major impact on processed foods because certain processed groceries cost three times less per kilogram of vegetable.
THE EXCUSE, WE ONLY LIVE ONCE
I remember once when my girlfriend told me, wait, you don’t drink alcohol, you don’t smoke, you don’t even eat white bread etc? I told her, yes. She answered me, what do you think, if you live like this, you won’t die? All of us will die… I just smiled. I really did not want to philosophize and to explain her why and how, but however I chose this way of living, and as I respect the decisions of the others, I expect the others to respect mine.
I know many people that have started with diets, and many of them are making excuses such as, wait a minute, this is really expensive, this is not tasty and etc, and after 10 days they quit, and are telling that we live just once and that it’s not a problem to have a little bit overweight. Although I was passing through phases as they have passed, the beginning of the diet is the most difficult part, and I have never said that I had totally quit of junk food when I first started, such as fruits for example, however nowadays, I am clean and sober from my addiction to food.
